CIMIC Gaza Statement

The Central Illinois Mosque & Islamic Center (CIMIC) is extremely saddened in light of the rapidly unfolding situation in Gaza, occupied Palestinian territories, Israel, and the region more broadly. Unfortunately, there is little positive to say and much grave concern. We hurt for the loss of all the innocent lives, and pray for the healing of their loved ones.
CIMIC is praying for peace, but it’s important to note that peace cannot be accomplished in the absence of justice. Israel’s complete siege of Gaza is a human catastrophe that has resulted in a halt of food, water, and electricity, revoking Palestinians’ access to basic human rights. President Carter once wrote, “It will be a tragedy for the Israelis, the Palestinians, and the world – if peace is rejected and a system of oppression, apartheid, and sustained violence is permitted to prevail.”
For those who have lost loved ones, friends, community members, and partners in the region, you are in our thoughts. We hope that peace and stability prevail. As a community, we must stand together and continue to dedicate ourselves to fostering a culture of true peace.
Please remain alert and report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement. Please report any activities of concern around the security of the Masjid to Br. Marwan Yousef at (217) 649-8277
