Dear Members of the Community:
It is with regret that the Central Illinois Mosque and Islamic Center is suspending all activities at the Masjid until January 2, 2021. This is pursuant to the guidance we received from Champaign Urbana Public Health District.
For the past several months, we have been diligent in maintaining safety protocols at the Masjid. Our community members have worked hard to observe rules about masks, social distancing, limiting contact and occupancy limitations. However, the positivity rate for Covid-19 cases has continued to increase in the community, including among our members.
The CU Public Health District has noted that places of worship are among the top five places for the spread of Covid-19 in our community. As a result, the CU Public Health District has recommended that places of worship provide exclusively remote services. We are complying with this recommendation, and the Masjid will continue to offer a weekly Jummah Khutba on CIMIC Social Media (YouTube/Facebook) channels.
We need to do our part to help reduce the community spread of Covid-19. The CU Public Health District reports that the number one source of transmission of this virus is through gatherings of friends or family. Therefore, members are urged not to create alternate gatherings for Jummah prayers or other worship.
CIMIC employees are not restricted from entering the Masjid, and additional guidance will be provided to them in the coming days.
We understand the difficulty of this decision on the community, and we do not make this decision lightly. The decision to suspend activities was made in consultation with the Imam, CU Public Health District recommendations, local physicians, members of the Ibadat Committee, and all members of the CIMIC Board.
May Allah keep all of us in His Protection.
